Part 1: MCPD's big fat NYC wedding
(By T308. Full thread here)
Indeed it was. I would like to post a rustic monologue describing the whole
event, but, to be honest, I'm at a loss. Perhaps it's the late hour, perhaps
it's the wine.
In brief....
Despite what you might think, Gretchen didn't do a runner. She, against her
better judgment and that of the assembled crowd, stayed throughout the entire
proceedings and actually married the man!
The Crowd - A nice mix of Euro types (What's up with those wacky Belgians?),
Tennessee's finest (Gretchen's family, very nice, very Anti-Bellum/Scarlet
O'Hara like), the delegation from Staten Island (Mr & Mrs Phil), the Oh-high-oh
party (Mr. and Ms Borland) and the low life Southern California types (Tiger
and Crew Chief, myself and the hit of the party one MC!). A very strange and
wonderful mix of folk indeed.
Clothes - Sadly, Duffin didn't arrive bedecked in Capri pants. He was rather
nattily dressed in black (how very NYC of him) with a Cavallino tie pin.
Thankfully, the bride wore white. As for the rest of the crew, I alone was not
"suited" (there's a story there, but I was much cooler than the rest
temperature wise if not style wise), Tiger was adorned with surprisingly few
spiders, Borland actually came dressed (unlike his photo on the directory...),
Tiger liked Phil's tie (silvery black, just like his hair!) and the winner for
snappiest dresser goes to MC! He does clean up well (nice suit).
The setting - Central Perk, uh, Park. Very nice indeed. There must have been
about a dozen weddings on or about the same time. I was caught up in a Nubian
festival (very Coming to America....) until I realized that I wasn't at the
right wedding. I did get an invitation to come to the reception but I don't go
north of 125th street. The event was wonderful (Gretchen was a vision and Paul
was a rock!). A rather confused journey in limos to the restaurant followed.
The food - We were all confused by the menu and even our resident Italian
(thanks for nothin' Phil!) couldn't suss it out. Needless to say there wasn't
much animal on the menu (who'd have thunk that MCPD was a vegetarian!!). We
made up for our confusion by drinking large quantities of wine. Much fun was
had by all (and photos were taken, god help us...) and speeches were made (and
Paul broke us up, and us alone, with a hat reference!!)
In the end it was the aaf crowd that remained. What passed between us shall
remain just that, between us. Thanks Paul and Gretchen for giving us the
chance to meet IRL. We shall never forget it. We wish you all the happiness
that we fervently dream of for ourselves.
Good night now....
